In my previous blog “weight loss myth 3: I can’t lose weight! It’s my genes.”, it mentions that we can influence our gene expression with our lifestyles and environment, although we may not be able to change our genetics. An example of this is that our sleep pattern can influence our “fat gene”.
Another recent research shows that a 8-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) meditation program can significantly reduce loneliness and pro-inflammatory gene expression in older adults. This just adds to a growing body of evidence that is showing the positive benefits of a variety of exercises involving meditation, such as tai chi and yoga.
